How to Make Knotless Braids Last Longer
Knotless braids are gentler on your scalp than traditional box braids, but longevity still comes down to how you protect them at night, how you moisturize, and how often you cleanse.
Start with a silk or satin bonnet every single night. Cotton pillowcases pull moisture from the braids and fray the ends. A good bonnet alone can add two weeks to the life of your style.
Lightly mist your braids every other day with a mix of water, leave-in conditioner, and a few drops of jojoba or argan oil. Skip heavy butters — they build up at the roots and shorten your style.
Cleanse the scalp every 7–10 days using a diluted clarifying shampoo applied with an applicator bottle. Massage gently, rinse fully, and air dry. Never skip wash day — buildup is what causes the itch and the smell.
Around week four, expect some frizz at the roots. A quick edge refresh with mousse and a satin scarf for 20 minutes will reset the look without taking down a single braid.
